Obsidian Entertainment has revealed that its upcoming RPG, Avowed, will feature more than ten different endings, offering players a wide range of outcomes based on their choices throughout the game.
During a discussion at Gamescom 2024, game director Carrie Patel stated that the game’s endings would be highly varied, with players encountering “a lot of different combinations” of ending slides.
Patel explained that Avowed is designed to be shaped by the player’s decisions across various parts of the game. She emphasized that “your ending really is the sum total of your choices across the game,” reinforcing the idea that each playthrough can lead to a unique conclusion. This approach is in line with Obsidian’s tradition of creating deeply interactive narratives where player agency is paramount.
The game, set in the world of Eora, first introduced in the Pillars of Eternity series, was originally slated for a 2024 release. However, Obsidian recently confirmed a delay, pushing the release date to February 18, 2025. Despite the delay, anticipation remains high, especially given the extensive range of narrative possibilities.
As players explore Avowed, they will encounter numerous decisions that will impact the story’s direction, including critical choices about alliances and loyalties in the endgame. However, the game will not feature a “kill everybody” approach, as Obsidian opted for a more structured narrative experience.
