Earth Defense Force 6 has opened its ranks to PC and PlayStation audiences outside of Japan, welcoming all who would stand against the extraterrestrial threats invading Earth. Developer Sandlot is picking up where Earth Defense Force 5 left off: humanity won the war against the unknown Invaders known as “Primers,” but at what cost? Turns out the cost was 90% of Earth’s population, leaving a meager remnant of the thriving civilization that once was.
Needless to say, the EDF has no shortage of work ahead of them between rebuilding society and thwarting the increasingly hostile species inhabiting the smoldering world. That’s where you come in. Armed as one of four classes—Ranger, Air Raider, Wing Diver, and Fencer—players will be mowing down legions of oversized insects, towering cyborg amphibians and all manner of weird monstrosities laser-focused on killing humanity’s survivors.
Earth Defense Force 6 boasts a wide array of missions, in which players will be outfitted with an equally vast arsenal ranging from slow-moving “tortoise” launchers to kaiju-sized battle mechs. Although each class is essentially a one-man army, you won’t need to play alone. The sci-fi third-person shooter boasts cooperative play, both in the form of 2-player split-screen co-op and 4-player online co-op. There’s no better way to experience this chaotic warfare than alongside a friend (or three).
Earth Defense Force 6 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. For the first two weeks of launch, a 10% discount is active on the standard edition and the PlayStation-exclusive deluxe edition, the latter of which comes packed with the season pass an the Blacker No. 6 Ranger boarding weapon.
