Ubisoft’s new shooter, XDefiant, has made a remarkable debut. According to reports, the free-to-play game hit 1 million unique players within the first two and a half hours of its launch. At one point, half a million concurrent players were logged in, although many experienced server issues. These problems were resolved about eight to ten hours after the launch.
By 48 hours post-launch, XDefiant had attracted over 3 million unique players and around 300,000 concurrent users. This makes it Ubisoft’s fastest game to reach 1 million unique players. For context, Apex Legends reached 1 million unique players in eight hours and 2.5 million within 24 hours.
Despite the game’s impressive numbers, its long-term success will depend on the revenue it generates from its Battle Pass and in-game cosmetics. The Battle Pass is competitively priced, but some in-game cosmetics are expensive. For example, the ‘Phantoms Prototype’ bundle costs around $30 for four items.
Ubisoft is pleased with the game’s performance so far. However, whether XDefiant can retain its player base and encourage them to spend remains to be seen. The game’s future will depend on its ability to keep players engaged and investing in the game’s offerings.
