Nintendo of America Announces Layoffs in Game and Hardware Testing Departments

Nintendo of America has recently announced layoffs within its game and hardware testing departments as part of new measures to reduce expenses. This decision has affected an undisclosed number of employees, ranging from those on contract to longstanding staff members, some of whom have been with the company for a decade.

Kotaku reports that these changes relate to the conclusion of specific contracts. While some employees will transition to permanent positions, others face termination. This move is part of Nintendo’s effort to reorganize its Product Testing functions to enhance global integration within its game development efforts. It aims to align more closely with interregional testing procedures and operations at Nintendo of America.

The restructuring includes ending some contracts and creating many new full-time positions. Nintendo of America, acknowledging the value of the affected employees’ contributions, has expressed gratitude towards them. Moreover, those whose roles are ending will receive severance and assistance with their transition through hiring agencies and with NOA’s support.

Sources cited by Kotaku suggest that over 100 employees are impacted by these changes. It is believed that this move may be associated with a quieter period ahead, with no major releases expected for the Nintendo Switch. The next console successor is anticipated to launch in 2025.
