How Demonic Intelligence Works in Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless

One of the most divisive changes in Disgaea 6 was the addition of Demonic Intelligence (D.I.). The option made a lot of sense, as Disgaea’s massive grinds lent itself more to mobile platforms, so giving players an easy way to eliminate some of the tedium is a welcome change. However, the mode could easily be abused to the point where playing the game was honestly detrimental to just watching it. Disgaea 7 makes a number of changes to D.I. that we wanted to go over briefly, since this is a huge consideration regardless of where you fall on the issue.

How D.I. Battle Works in Disgaea 7

Nippon Ichi Software made a number of changes to D.I. Battle to address the aforementioned concerns in Disgaea 7.

For starters, players now must complete a stage before they can use D.I. Battle on it. In addition to this, the mode is completely inaccessible in Item World. The latter is honestly for the best given missions like win in a single turn, or women only give additional levels that you’d otherwise lose out on.

After D.I. Battle is unlocked players earn one Poltergas per stage manually completed. Players can also earn Poltergas by finishing quests, or via PVP. Please note, any Poltergas earned before the mode is unlocked will be given after it’s accessible.

Stages maintain a strict one turn per Poltergas cost. For this reason it’s best to save them for short stages that offer massive benefits like we discussed in our leveling guide. The only exception to this is PVP, which has no cost.

While stockpiling Poltergas sounds like the best course of action, players can hold up to 300 Poltergas. After that point literally any use is better than losing the resource.

How to Unlock D.I. Battle

At the start of chapter four there will be a brief tutorial on how to use D.I. Battle. This comes down to beat a stage, enable auto-battle, and characters will go through the currently selected rotation.

These can be edited by going into the character select screen and selecting Demonic Intelligence.

Despite limiting how effective the mode is, it remains extremely well thought out. The most common use case will be passive grinding, which I can personally confirm the default Charge option works perfectly for.

The only time I suggest getting into the finer points of this mode is for PVP. Not only will you need to win each attempt, top players will almost certainly create strong rotations. This will become increasingly important the higher you go, as there is a certain point where tactic is more important than simply being more powerful than your opponent.

Even before release one of my friends had an extremely strong rotation that, despite being half my battle power, almost beat me on a few occasions. I still ultimately won every attempt, though if they were a smidge higher that might not be the case.

Skipping Battles

In chapter 8 of Disgaea 7 a new bill will be added that allows players to skip subsequent runs.

How this works is rather simple. After a successful D.I. Battle you’ll be offered additional runs that assume the exact same outcome. By this I mean, if you missed an attack and needed two turns to win, the stage can be skipped at a cost of two Poltergas per clear. This is not ideal and should be avoided if possible.

When the desired outcome occurs you can skip up to 300 playthroughs to unlock all the experience, mana, and items that you would’ve earned in a couple seconds. This is a great way to power level, though I can confirm skipping does not improve weapon mastery.
