Sony announced their plans to acquire award winning audio company Audeze.
Due to contractual commitments the terms and price of this acquisition were not disclosed.
The goal of this acquisition is to strengthen Sony Interactive Entertainments effort to improve the audio experience on PlayStation games. This isn’t too surprising as Audeze is known for their planar headphones and the recently announced Pulse Elite headset is the first to feature that technology.
As per the announcement, Audeze will continue to operate independently and develop multi-platform products. The announcement notes they will “benefit from being a part of the PlayStation ecosystem,” though what that specifically means has yet to be revealed.
Following the announcement Senior Vice President, Platform Experience at Sony Interactive Entertainment, Hideaki Nishino offered the following comment.
Audeze is a premier brand for headphones, and this acquisition highlights Sony Interactive’s focus on innovation and providing the best audio experience to PlayStation players. We’re excited to bring Audeze’s expertise into the PlayStation ecosystem, building on the great strides we’ve made with PlayStation 5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech and the Pulse 3D wireless headset.
Press Release
Audeze CEO, Sankar Thiagasamudram, added the following.
Sony Interactive provides Audeze with a unique opportunity to scale our business, as we continue with our mission to deliver best-in-class headphones to recording professionals, audiophiles, and gamers. We’re also looking forward to contributing to Sony Interactive’s efforts to take PlayStation audio experiences to the next level.
