Mortal Kombat 1 Officially Announced for PS5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC

NetherRealm Studios finally revealed Mortal Kombat 1 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Mortal Kombat 1 will release on Sept. 19, 2023.

As expected, three editions of Mortal Kombat 1 were also revealed. The standard edition will be available physically, and digitally for $69.99. Those looking for a bit more have the Premium Edition for $109.99. This includes the Kombat Pack that includes six playable fighters, five Kameo fighters, and a Jean Claude Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage, plus 1,250 in their in-game Dragon Krystals currency.

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series owners can also purchase a Kollector’s Edition for $249.99. It includes all the aforementioned stuff, in addition to a 16.5″ Liu Kang sculpture designed by COARSE, in-game skin based off the statue, SteelBook case, three art prints, and your Dragon Krystals are increased from 1,250 to 2,700. Both Premium and Kollector’s Editions will also gain early access to Mortal Kombat 1 on Sept. 14.

Preordering any edition will also give access to playable character Shang Tsung, and beta access sometime in Aug. Those interested will be able to preorder starting May 19 at 1 p.m. EST / 10 a.m. PST.

While details are still limited, the press release confirmed at least nine characters will return in Mortal Kombat 1.

NetherRealm’s genre-defining Story Mode returns with an immersive cinematic narrative featuring unexpected twists on classic rivalries and original backstories for a wide-ranging cast of legendary fighters, including Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung, Johnny Cage, and many others. Mortal Kombat 1 will also introduce Kameo Fighters, a unique roster of partner characters that can assist during matches, creating expanded gameplay possibilities for players.

A few additional details were also revealed in the FAQ section of the official site, like confirmation Mortal Kombat 1 will support rollback netcode.

A: A PlayStation Plus subscription, Xbox Live Gold, or Nintendo Switch Online membership will not be required to play Mortal Kombat 1 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or Nintendo Switch consoles. However, a PlayStation Plus subscription, Xbox Live Gold membership, or Nintendo Switch Online membership will be required for online multiplayer. 

Q: Will Mortal Kombat 1 have rollback netcode? 

A: Yes, Mortal Kombat 1 will have rollback netcode to support online gameplay.
