FromSoftware has become synonymous with their Souls series, which has become iconic for its difficulty and aesthetics, but there is another of the developer’s franchises that came before: Armored Core. It’s a name that should stoke the nostalgic bones in those that owned a PlayStation in the late 90s. And it’s one that hasn’t been seen since 2013. That is about to change, according to a supposed leak.
The information broke in a ResetEra thread created by user Red Liquorice, wherein an alleged consumer survey was shared. The document states that Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki is heading the revival project. The mech battling sci-fi epic is said to sport “three-dimensional movement” across an “overwhelmingly scaled map,” which is housed by the planet of Bashtar.
The post became quite popular, unsurprisingly, spurring Red Liquorice to follow up with additional details. In the supplemental post, the user states that a player in a white mech went up against a sizable boss mech. The player used an “energy or laser sword” in what was described as “Souls-style” combat. Admittedly, Red Liquorice has no direct familiarity with the Armored Core games, leaving the comparison open to much scrutiny. But it isn’t outside the realm of possibility that FromSoftware’s adopted Souls structure has been imprinted on Armored Core‘s return.
The survey also shared potential titles for the new game, ranging from simply Armored Core to including the numerical designation 6 and VI. To add legitimacy to this notable leak, screenshots surfaced of gameplay. While we are still without an official announcement, there is little left to dissuade us of the impending resurrection of Armored Core.
For now, you can look forward to the release of FromSoftware’s next game, Elden Ring, launching February 25th.
