The upcoming Nintendo Switch revision is, quite possibly, the worst kept secret in gaming right now but it seems the New Nintendo Switch was finally confirmed by GameStop.
As part of a new promotion this week, GameStop is offering $50 extra credit on a number of systems, including something they refer to as a New Nintendo Switch. Initially that might seem irrelevant, but both the ad and history suggest that will be the name of the upcoming system.
When looking at the ad, there are two mentions of New Nintendo Switch, both of which capitalize the word new, indicating it’s part of the name like lite or series. The first is in the description under $50 extra credit, with the second appearing in the valid dates. Normally this might seem like a harmless error, New Nintendo Switch is mentioned first each time and it could indicate the promotion is limited to brand new systems, Nintendo has referred to their systems with that name before.
Previously, when Nintendo revised their 3DS and 2DS lines, the consoles were called New Nintendo 3DS, New Nintendo 3DS XL and New Nintendo 2DS. This makes a bit more sense than community names like Nintendo Switch Pro or referring to it as Nintendo Switch 2.
Odds are this will finally get revealed during Nintendo’s E3 event on June 15 and the banner was accidentally uploaded early. Unfortunately, no further information was given but this seems like a very clear indication that the system is not only real, it’s coming soon.
