The Racing sim genre is extremely few and far between in the current era of videogames and with Microsoft closing down on their Forza Motorsport series by laying off most of the studio last year, there are less than a handful of true racing simulators that you can get right now. And among them, Project Motor Racing seemed like a really worthy candidate but it was released to less-than-stellar reviews, which cite the whole experience as a bit underdeveloped and lackluster in more ways than one.
But it looks like the developers are more than aware of this and are actively looking to turn the game around for good with a massive update designed to bring fundamental level changes to Project Motor Racing at the end of this month. In a latest newsletter from the studio, the developers have openly admitted that the game was unable to live up to the expectations of the fans, and of themselves, too.
“When we launched Project Motor Racing in November, we set out to build a racing sim that captured the intensity, immersion, and discipline of real motorsport,” the studio wrote.
“So let’s start with the simple truth: we didn’t hit the mark. Not on the stuff that mattered most. We let you down, and we let ourselves down.”
Developer Straight4 Studios also assured that they’re currently working around the clock to course correct the game on every level:
“Patch by patch, we’ve listened closely to your feedback – the good, the bad, and the blunt – and we’ve acted on it,” the studio continued. “We’re now seven patches into making PMR the experience you want. Are we there yet? No. Not yet. But we’re moving closer to the standard you deserve and the standard we expect of ourselves.”
“At the end of March, we’ll be delivering a really significant update aimed at resetting PMR’s foundation and bringing the sim much closer to what a serious motorsport title should feel like. We’ll share a lot more detail about what this looks like throughout March.”
The last update for Project Motor Racing included a “total overhaul to the GT4 class” of cars in the game, while also introducing the 2013 Ford FG Falcon V8 Sportscar as a free vehicle for all players.
