Magnavale Eternal Soul is clearly a tribute to Castlevania Aria of Sorrow and many other Castlevania games from the Game Boy Advance era, even the HUD is similar to some of these games and I would even say the general vibes have been skillfully imitated. This PC metroidvania got a new trailer showcasing some gameplay and its systems, and while there’s a ton more to discover it is clear that this is Castlevania Aria of Sorrow with a clear twist, mainly the fact that death is a very important aspect of the gameplay, but the soul system remains quite similar at a simple glance.
Magnavale Eternal Soul is retro
This game could be ported to the Game Boy Advance if the developer tried to do so, it would be quite the neat experiment to attempt and even a Romhack would be potentially possible to pull off. Regardless, Magnavale Eternal Soul is a game to look out for, especially if you are starved for a new Castlevania release that Konami will probably not make and not know that Bloodstained exists as a series. While the similarities are too much, perhaps a bit too much for my own taste, I still believe that this was crafted with love and I would be happy to see it succeed.
Among the features there’s the ability to dual wield weapons, which will give you the potential to brew many builds and try different strategies, there will also be a ton of summons you can pick, as that’s an entire category of souls you can get and some even work exactly the same to the ones found in Castlevania Aria of Sorrow. You know what people says about things that aren’t broken, however I’m not entirely sure this would really apply for it, while the art is original yet obviously inspired by the GBA limitations, Magnavale Eternal Soul should really be a homebrew on that console.
