Proving that the long anticipated remake of the classic Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is finally nearing it’s official release, the upcoming title has been confirmed to get rated by the ESRB recently. The modernized version of the 2004 release is now rated T for Teen which is pretty much in line with the original Prince of Persia: Sands of Time in terms of tone and according to the official ESRB page, the upcoming game received the rating for blood, partial nudity, sexual themes, and violence.
“This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the role of a Persian prince on a quest to break a curse,” the current rating of the Ubisoft title states. “From a third-person perspective, players traverse platform environments, sole puzzles, avoid traps (e.g., spike pits, wall-mounted blades and saws), and battle cursed soldiers and creatures made of sand. Players use swords and daggers to defeat enemies in melee-style combat.”
The official ESRB site provides a much more detailed description on the rating and some aspects of it clearly seem as newly added that weren’t a part of the original Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Nonetheless, these are changes that are somewhat expected to arrive with the modernized version but hopefully the remake retains the same charm and sense of aesthetics that were present in the original release.
With a whole suite of inventive gameplay mechanics such as it’s wall-running parkour, fun and replayable combat involving exciting abilities like rewinding and slowing down Time, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remains a cherished trip down memory lane for everyone who had played it back in the day. And that’s why, the upcoming remake of the iconic title is more than worthwhile whether you have played the original or not.
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake was first announced in 2020 and went through a tricky development cycle where it’s initial release date of January 2021 got pushed to March 2021 and was later delayed multiple times with the game now finally expected to come out early next year. The remake is expected to feature a more realistic approach towards the gameplay of the original including whole new mechanics for both combat and parkour, overhauled graphics (obviously), new animations and more.
The upcoming remake is currently expected to be announced by Ubisoft sometimes later this month.
