Grime 2 feels like an evolution of what was already stated in the first game for PC, at least the trailer can show us that. There has been a ton of metroidvanias recently, but none feel as original as this one we have right here. The main gimmick of Grime is your ability to absorb enemies and become strong, similar to a certain Blue Bomber that has been abandoned by Capcom. By absorbing enemies, you mutate your living weapons to get better at attacking, or outright different movesets. Clearly this game isn’t based on the character from the first one, but a different universe altogether.
Grime 2 is coming
There’s still no release date for the game so far, but that might change very soon as more information starts dropping in the pipeline. The game looks stunning, and its even going to explore a curious world where its inhabitants are obsessed with art, or to be honest the result of it. Grime 2 also comes packed with new abilities that weren’t in the first game, tendrils are the main draw of this game. By using your tendrils, you can solve puzzles, attack enemies, and do a wide variety of things that wasn’t possible in the first one.
While I’m not a fan of radical changes for sequels, the game still remains a metroidvania in a 2D perspective, and it feels like it will bring more of the same charm. It’s not like the Pokemon franchise, that is unable to decide whether it is a turn based RPG or an action RPG, there is consistency in the universe of Grime, and Grime 2 only wants to get a teeny bit experimental with fighting mechanics. Sequels sometimes bring us different characters with different movesets, so there’s really nothing to be worried about, Hollow Knight Silksong is an example of this.
