Shutter Story is a love letter to those who like games like Fatal Frame, while the gameplay is nothing of the sort or even comparable to that game series by Koei Tecmo, the vibes are similar in a way. With realistic graphics and actual real pictures, the experience becomes more uncanny as seeing familiar faces that you would see every day makes things way more unnerving than they should. If you are someone with a strong heart, perhaps you should try out the demo that released recently and if you like it you should wishlist the game.
Shutter Story looks very spooky
There’s something about old interfaces and real images, while heavily edited, these images still transmit a sense of something not being right, and uncanny valley effect that looks completely intentional. For those who like the whole idea about haunted photos this is pretty much a game that is all about that, you analyze some photos only to find that some things are extremely wrong. All of this is done from a retro inspired interface that even tries to mimic the vibes of a 4:3 display someone might still have in their homes.
The UI of the game is immaculate and it feels like the creators behind this indie hit piece are very familiar with the classic Windows staples before aesthetics stopped being a thing altogether. Shutter Story is a narrative focused game, so get ready because there will be tons of reading to do, so if you don’t like that perhaps you should stop reading and find a game that can fit your needs. Good horror is hard to make, but what the demo show seems pretty nice so far, we can only hope that the developers behind Shutter Story can provide some huge twists in the narrative to make things stand out and feel unique.
