The hit survival horror game Darkwood gets a sequel in Darkwood 2 a trailer even announced that. PC gamers fondly remember the 2017 classic that released way back by the hand of the people who made Pathologic and it still is an amazing experience. There’s a ton of questions to be had about this new entry in the Darkwood series, mainly the art style change and why it even received a sequel. The gameplay seems to remain the same, a survival horror game with a overhead perspective that seems rather unique for the genre, we can only hope that this one is as good as the first one that came out.
Darkwood 2 looks interesting
While there’s no many details around this new release, it is clear that its going to be more of the same but set in the future, a proper continuation instead of an explanation of what happened before. Many claim that the older art style was better, but I find merit in the new one too, it does resemble what we see in the first part. This game comes from the need of the studio in making something extra while the rest of the team works in a bigger project as Darkwood 2 will focus on rehashing what worked before like a good sequel should do.
Many developers fail to understand this, but using wildly different ideas in an established series when the previous ideas were already good is a recipe for disaster. Alas, many companies decide that they should push unnecessary changes on well established franchises often alienating the fanbase that supported the original release and missing the sales target that would have been met if the same idea was repeated. People want series to be the same with some upgrades per entry, the developers of Darkwood 2 know this important fact.
