Developers of Star Wars Outlaws, Massive Entertainment, are about to go to the chopping board of studios that the triple A industry kills. The PC release for this game was an absolute flop, and its sad that we won’t get a good game for the franchise again. Massive Entertainment had potential but they had to be choked by Ubisoft, which is one of the worst publishers this game could have ended with. At the current neck break pace that the industry is going with, there really is now choice but to rush the production of games and this harms everyone, especially the developers who don’t want to rush.
Developers of Star Wars Outlaws are done
It seems that in the coming months the studio might just cease to be, and this is a worrisome trend that continues unchecked through the whole industry. It is crazy because this has been a long running studio making some quality games here and there, getting the axe so quickly can be a dangerous decision from Ubisoft. I believe that they should be given a second chance to redeem themselves, and that they shouldn’t be rushed and pushed to release something big without a budget or even time to develop the game.
There is solutions to the industry issue, but some are just pushing for generative “AI” which will drive the quality of games even lower. Nobody wants to integrate such technology, and those who do will only be in trouble when it comes to actually selling or even being remembered. Any game made with some sort of gen “AI” thing in it isn’t even worth to be pirated or preserved as it holds no merit or cultural relevance. Star Wars Outlaws, despite its big misses, is still a game made by people and it just needed more time in the oven to become the best Star Wars game.
