Fellowship looks like something made by Blizzard, the legendary PC game studio that has now become another scourge in the industry. There’s a ton to unravel for this new PC game, but the main take away here is that this is definitely a live service title, so be sure to know where your money is going. The game will also include a kernel level anti cheat software that can damage your PC in Easy Anti Cheat, so perhaps you really don’t want to play this one at all. Leaving all of this big doubts aside, it really feels like a game made for those who just want to play more retro Blizzard games.
Fellowship looks like WoW
The company behind this one made Gigantic, a MOBA that failed terribly and wasn’t even able to get enough players, they decided to resurrect the game with the same level of success, such a shame since its great. Unfortunately what happens with a ton of these live service titles is that they die early, you paid cash, and the only thing you end up with is a game that will never work without the official servers. This is what the Stop Killing Games petition is trying to prevent, and Fellowship will just need to stick to some regulations for it to work.
As long as Fellowship is offered by the developers as a game that can be self hosted and run without any sort of DRM or anti cheat software, things will be well. Unfortunately, the anti cheat part is already a huge issue, because these sorts of games don’t really run in a ton of systems, therefore they aren’t portable. This is a big problem when it comes to preservation, as Fellowship might be lost forever if the developers don’t act quick and try to fix these glaring flaws in game desing.
