Serious Sam 2 is beloved by many gamers and even their own studio, to the point they have announced a new update that completely overhauls the experience. Alongside bringing many more changes to revitalize the old 2005 game, a slew of new things have been added to make it feel as if it were yet another Steam game with Steam items. Trading cards are now collectable as if the game released today, and even multiplayer got fixes to be able to feel like a modern game, it feels as if this were the Half Life update that happened a while ago.
Serious Sam 2 got very serious
These upgrades are serious, potentially game changing, rebalancing to multiplayer is a crazy thing to expect in a game that didn’t get updates for 20 years. Most of the time old games were a one and done deal because patches were hard to deploy, but now things have changed and technology has accelerated to the point we can just update whatever we want. This is a double edged sword, as it incentivizes studios to release a minimum viable product more often than releasing a full game. Games are works of art, and incomplete works shouldn’t be a norm in a medium like this.
Serious Sam 2 is a classic shooter that many old school players enjoy, and now its the greatest time to jump back in to explore what this title has to offer. Younger gamers may want to check out the Serious Sam series, as it has a plethora nutty humor and tons of things that might get a chuckle or two out of you. It is my belief that younger gamers are able to enjoy older games regardless of graphics, more and more are starting to understand that and having fun with retro games by the day.
