Forgotten Seas has released on PC, and it looks like a good time. We really need more games about pirates and sailing ships, and this one seems to have a ton of twists with it. Indie developers keep doing their best to bring us interesting games to fill in for when triple A games fail us, and there has been a ton of things coming out that truly replace what triple A developers have done so far. While ideally the ideal gaming ecosystem is comprised of both indies and big releases, it seems that bigger companies are more focused on money making rather than providing anything that is of quality.
Forgotten Seas comes out of early access
Early Access titles are very tricky because developers always run on the risk of having to cancel what they have done, essentially having taken tons of money from people who thought the game was going to work. Everything is a gamble in the industry nowadays, and it seems that people who opt to do things by this means often don’t reach what they expect. There already has been cases of games ceasing all of their development and releasing a 1.0 version that is buggy and almost unplayable, which does feel like a rug pull of sorts.
Thankfully Forgotten Seas does not seem to fall in this category, as the time involved with it has put tons of passion into engaging with the process of game development in a good way. It is very hard to craft a game, let alone an amazing experience, but those who know their way with the tools that are available can make something amazing that might even be life changing for some. Indie developers often deliver these experiences to many, and while the amount of excellent games seems to be waning, Forgotten Seas will not be forgotten so easily.
