Evil Origin got an amazing demo that you should try out, it has been out for quite a while but the developer has brought more attention to the new PC game. While it does not look like the biggest thing, it really feels like a 2DHD game that Square Enix would make. Of course, it is yet a proof of concept and there’s work that needs to be done, the Kickstarter project is going well and it does not feel like a rug pull, so that means you can fund this one without worrying if you are interested. Kickstarter gets a lot of hate but there’s genuinely good projects in there.
Evil Origin is a retro inspired gem
All of the bells and whistles seem to be there, just that renewed and fit for a new era of gaming. There’s work that needs to be done, but most of the Kickstarter goals are accomplished, so we can surely expect this one to drop very soon when we least expect it. There’s still no proper release date so far, but indie titles that are good take a ton of time and resources to make, like with any art piece in the medium made by people who care. Evil Origin is clearly inspired in Koudelka and Resident Evil, and it will have tons of deep lore to check out.
RPG mechanics are are booming, especially those of the JRPG kind, people love turn based games despite what others might believe, its no minority if you consider the amount of sales that Clair Obscur Expedition 33 managed to push. Perhaps more triple A developers should learn a lesson and start appealing towards what people want to see rather than trying to force their vision upon others. At the very least, we can Wishlist Evil Origin to make the triple A industry crumble further.
