Kingmakers has been delayed, and the note the developers wrote is quite long, so we will try making things shorter with this article for reading convenience. The original plan was to drop this new PC game on October 8th, but it seems that the developers ran into some big complications that require them to push the release date even further to ensure things are okay. This is a massive undertaking because the team is committed to pushing the maximum limitations of Unreal Engine 4, there will be a sea of enemies each with their own advanced patterns that feel like players.
Kingmakers gets delayed due to ambition
Trying to make such a game, that is optimized for mid range PCs to the point it can run on 60 or more FPS is crazy, especially when you take into account that Unreal Engine tends to be an unwieldy engine to deal with. Kingmakers is a game made by lunatics, in a good way of course, this are the kind of people that we need in the industry, visionaries who want to make things work and break limits, instead of sticking to the same formula for new IPs. Indie developers are sometimes allowed to do this because they aren’t tied to the terrible pace of the industry.
The triple A industry is risk averse, they don’t even care about using tools that work for too long, because they are just constantly switching them even if they don’t need to do so. Yes, numbers go up in Unreal Engine, but that does not make current optimizations good, there’s still a lot of work to be done and people just care about using the auto fill bucket instead of attempting to do things themselves. Who can really blame them, maybe its a problem of the system itself that forces us to push things quicker and soullessly, unlike the devs behind Kingmakers.
