If you were a fan of the older X-Men Legends series of games or the Marvel Ultimate Alliance Series, it’s safe to say that the upcoming Marvel Cosmic Invasion will instantly appeal to you. With a retro-inspired look that closely resembles the most beloved versions of many iconic Marvel characters as seen in the X-Men: The Animated Series, Spider-Man: The Animated Series and more, Marvel Cosmic Invasion is a side-scrolling 2D beat-em-up that will remind you of the above-mentioned classics in more ways than one.
Developed by Tribute Games (the studio behind the amazing TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge), Marvel Cosmic Invasion also has a small Demo available on Steam right now, allowing you to get a taste of the superhero-brawler by yourself or with your friends.
The Demo for Marvel Cosmic Invasion contains two full levels along with several boss fights, supports both local and online co-op and features these nine playable characters: Spider-Man, Wolverine, Storm, Captain America, Hulk, Venom, Rocket Raccoon, Nova, Phyla-Vell and She-Hulk. Check out the trailer for the demo:
The gameplay looks fun and flashy complete with many comic-accurate moveset that feel exciting and true-to-form, especially if you’re a fan of some of these characters. The full game will feature a total of fifteen playable characters including Beta Ray Bill, Black Panther, Cosmic Ghost Rider, Silver Surfer and possibly Iron Man and Phoenix as well, as hinted by a datamine leak. Overall the roster looks pretty sweet and would’ve been truly complete if it included Thor, but there’s Beta Ray Bill who has mostly similar powerset so can’t really complain.
While an official release date is yet to be revealed, Marvel Cosmic Invasion is looking to be a delightful trip to the days of the classic SNES and Sega Genesis titles, back when videogames were all about fun and having a good time, be it alone or with friends. The 2D superhero brawler will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.
