A new report has shed insights on some of the main aspects of the upcoming remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag which is that the game won’t feature any of the modern day story sections that were on the original Black Flag. And though they were pretty short and largely peripheral in comparison to the story of the pirate-turned-assassin Edward Kenway who’s the main star of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, they were still an integral part of the overarching narrative of the franchise that connected the past events with the present day happenings.
French outlet Jeuxvideo has published the report and clearly mentions that the upcoming remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag will do away with all of the modern day story sections that were present in the original 2013 title. And needless to say, fans of the series are hugely disappointed at the omission of the story elements as evident by their posts in several threads on Reddit.
In the original Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, the player would step out of the Animus at regular intervals to explore the Abstergo Entertainment office, interact with several characters, discovering clues as to how the past events connect with the modern day and more. And even though the modern day parts of Black Flag weren’t nearly as memorable as the Desmond saga, they were nonetheless important and consistent with everything that had been leading up to that point in the series.
The report also mentions that Ubisoft is adding bonus story contents to the Edward Kenway sections such as additional story missions focused on pirate Mary Read which didn’t make it to the original Black Flag in 2013. And it seems we have to wait for the remake to arrive to finally know if the trade off was actually worth it.
The upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake will also reportedly contain a significantly overhauled combat system and gears that lean heavily into the more modern entries of the series which definitely sounds exciting.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake is expected to launch sometimes in 2026.
