The hotly anticipated upcoming Borderlands 4 will have a Day 1 Patch that’s geared to improve it’s performance in several ways, so much so that the update is actually essential for playing the game. But even though the Day 1 Patch for Borderlands 4, in Gearbox CEO’s own words, “does a lot”, it won’t necessarily result in a huge performance gain especially on a lot of older PCs. In a recent comment addressing the upcoming looter shooter’s pre-release performance on PCs, Gearbox chief Randy Pitchford said on Twitter/ X:
“The Day 1 patch does a lot! That said, the expectation for using a below min-spec machine should be that the game is unplayable. That the game runs at all on your system is a miracle. That you can get 55 – 60 fps out of heavy combat is actually incredible given how the engine and what’s going on under the hood. Your specification doesn’t indicate if you’re on SDD or HDD, but that could also explain some of the hitching. It’s a big, bold, new, seamless world and I’m sorry to say that older hardware may not provide buttery smooth performance for the latest gen AAA games, as has always been the case since the dawn of PC gaming.”
This means you shouldn’t have high hopes for the patch improving FPS in Borderlands 4 by a lot, especially on a lot of older hardware that’s actually below the game’s minimum system requirements. And to verify how well the game will run on your rig along with the expected visual quality settings, take a look at Borderlands 4’s official system requirements.
Borderlands 4 is coming out in three different editions including the $69.99 Standard Edition, the $99.99 Deluxe Edition and finally the more expensive Super Deluxe Edition which costs a whopping $129.99. And as we can see, Borderlands 4 will not cost $80 instead the Standard Edition of the game will be sold for $69.99 which is pretty reasonable.
Borderlands 4 is slated to release on September 12 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, with the Nintendo Switch 2 launch following shortly after.
