Gearbox Software has officially announced the global release times for Borderlands 4. Players now have a detailed schedule for when they can play this highly anticipated title. The announcement gives players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 a clear timeline, with some differences in timing across platforms and regions.
The release will occur in stages, starting with the console versions on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S launching together in most global areas on September 12. PC players on Steam and the Epic Games Store will follow a different schedule. They can access the game on September 11 in Western time zones, like the US and UK. However, players in regions such as Japan and Australia will have to wait until the morning of September 12. This staggered release for PC suggests a unified launch time based on a global clock, resulting in different local times depending on where players are located.
A key detail in the announcement is the separate release date for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game. While other platforms are set for a September launch, the Switch 2 edition will arrive a few weeks later on October 3. This later release indicates a longer development period for this specific platform. It is common for games launching on various hardware generations or different systems. Switch 2 players will have to wait longer, following a different global release schedule.
The information from Gearbox confirms that players in New Zealand, Australia, and other Eastern regions will be the first to experience the game on console. They will gain access after midnight on September 12. Meanwhile, players in North America will have access on the evening of September 11. This follows the “rolling” midnight launch model that is common in the gaming industry. The choice to release the Switch 2 version separately suggests that Gearbox is taking extra time to improve the experience for the newer hardware. This ensures a smooth launch across all platforms.
