Screamer is making a comeback, the 90s racing franchise that not many knows about is nearing a full revival. This revival however will have its big identity changes, PC gamers who are familiar with the Need For Speed series will love this one because its pretty much a contemporary. This is yet another arcade physics racing game and back in the day it was one of the first of its kind, this ditches the whole simulation aspect for something more floaty and cool. Along with this, there was a massive makeup done to the game’s aesthetic too, clearly inspired by the popularity of Cyberpunk aesthetics.
Screamer is making a huge comeback
Screamer was your typical arcade racer made by an Italian studios, and now it will receive a massive makeover to ensure it can stand out from the crowd. The original didn’t really feel like it had an identity of its own aside from the control systems that felt awfully familiar to other games of its time. Yes, its tough to do many different things with racing games, as the genre gives little room for improvement and changes, especially if you stick to realistic controls and all of those things that give the usual identity to racing games.
However, Screamers will get rebooted, and it seems to be taking place in a grim cyberpunk future where races are deadly, think of it as a more adult version of F-Zero but with cars that would be possible to have nowadays. For fans of the extreme and adrenaline Screamers might be one of the best releases coming in 2026, the anime aesthetics were a surprise coming from a series so mundane like this but they kinda fit the idea. This new era of racing games is filled with tons of homages to Initial D and honestly I’m all in for that kind of treatment.
