Bungie has released a new update for Destiny 2. This patch focuses on fixing key issues and improving the experience in the Portal activity. It went live on August 26 and is a smaller update that comes before the larger “Ash & Iron” major update planned for a later date. Players will notice a series of targeted fixes. The most significant change is an increase in the time limits for matchmaking in Fireteam Ops. This change gives teams more chances to earn points across all difficulty levels.
The main updates are about the Portal. The time limit for different Fireteam Ops difficulties has been extended. The Expert Difficulty limit has increased by 25%, while the Master and Grandmaster difficulties have been extended by 50% and 75%, respectively. This change is important due to ongoing discussions about the Portal and its rewards structure. The patch also fixes several longstanding bugs, such as an issue where players could not claim rewards from the Lighthouse in Trials of Osiris if another character had previously tried.
In addition to these significant changes, the update includes many technical and quality-of-life fixes throughout the game. Bug fixes were made for Kepler Weekly Missions, an issue with “The Desert Perpetual” raid encounter, and various exotic armor, abilities, and gameplay modifiers. A key fix addressed the Liar’s Handshake and Spirit of the Liar perks, which were causing increased damage in some melee situations. Additionally, fixes were made to multiple UI elements and cosmetic items, creating a smoother experience for Guardians.
This latest patch is an important step for Bungie as it responds to community feedback about future changes. The developer has confirmed that the upcoming “Ash & Iron” update will include a controversial nerf to the Solo Ops activity within the Portal, a change that has already sparked significant player feedback. While this recent update tackles immediate problems, it also outlines the studio’s communication and development pace as it prepares for more major adjustments to the game’s evolving community.
