Silent Hill f is shaping up to be a weird game, to the point the producer said that some elements “Aren’t New and Exclusive to Soulslike Games”. Sometimes I genuinely wonder why all of these changes and experimentation are made upon well established IPs. People treat modernization as this all mighty force that always does good, but the majority of the time, a ton of niche franchises that take a shot at it just died off and became a joke. Silent Hill f deals with the very real possibility that it will be a terrible entry in the series, we can only hope that Ryukishi07 can save this one before it dies in the water.
Silent Hill f is weird
Some claim the gameplay of these games are old, but they miss the point of how the experience should be. Combat will be an obligation here, not a choice, and it really does not make sense at all. Almost all of the games were based on survival and puzzle solving, and it seems that things took the worse turn when the series started to derive and “modernize itself”, yes, some of those games have its “fans” however. But if you really care about appealing to a demography that will just tourist through your game as if it were a cheap flick and then replace it in a week, then you are gonna have a bad time.
Konami does not seem to understand that keeping things simple and focusing on the strengths is what made Silent Hill good. Some fans don’t even understand the concept of hardware limitations, and end up saying ludicrous claims such as Silent Hill 2 being a game held back by the limits of the PS2 despite the design being totally intentional. Alas, media literacy is dead, and fans of psychological horror are few and far in-between, Silent Hill f might be dead on arrival.
