id Software has just released the second major title update for Doom: The Dark Ages which adds a new customizable Horde mode called the Ripatorium plus numerous gameplay adjustments including new difficulty sliders, settings for weapon class switching, balancing changes to the game’s main campaign, Atlan mech, Dragon mount, enemy AI and many more. Honestly, the total number of changes and additions in this new update is so enormous (over 200) that it pretty much serves as an overhaul of the game in many ways.
So if for some reason you didn’t quite enjoy the game when it first came out, give it another chance after this update as it basically enhances Doom: The Dark Ages in a plethora of new and exciting ways, offering a more polished gameplay experience overall.
First off, the Ripatorium Endless Arena mode pits you against hordes of demons non-stop while also letting you tweak the experience in a number of ways such as which enemies you’d like to appear, one of three arenas and even the music. Developer id Software will further adjust and improve the Ripatorium through future updates, so there will be more contents in this mode in the coming months.
Title Update 2 also comes with a number of stability and performance fixes, making Doom: The Dark Ages more robust by fixing several recurring crashes that were present in the game earlier. Plus, the update has made the gameplay a bit faster and smoother by making you parry and block sooner than you could before, along with faster weapon swapping as well. The update also adds a new slider for Parry & Melee Slow Motion so now you can adjust the duration of the slow-motion feedback right after a successful Shield parry or Melee strike.
Moreover, the update has added two new skins to the game–The Quakecon Doom Slayer Skin and The Perfection Doom Slayer Skin where the former can be unlocked by linking your platform to Bethesda.net and playing Doom: The Dark Ages between August 7 and September 1 and the latter by completing all the Ripatorium arenas.
