The Oblivion Remaster continues to be an unprecedented success in every way as the game has been confirmed to reach a staggering 9 million players in the span of just 3 months after release, making it one of the biggest hits of the year. Bethesda has announced the game’s current player counts on their social media account alongside posting a humorous graphic featuring one of the most prominent NPC’s in the game world.
“To everyone who emerged as a hero of Kvatch, mastered Arch-Mage, rose to Grand Champion, banished the Blackwood Company, gallivanted as the Gray Fox, and listened to the Night. Thank you for sharing in our worlds,” wrote Bethesda.
The Oblivion Remaster was already known to be a huge hit with the game ranking as the third best selling title of 2025, behind Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Monster Hunter Wilds respectively. The game had also managed to engage over 4 million players in just it’s first week, cementing it’s status as a runaway success.
However, the numbers only indicate the total player count which is not the same as total units sold and as Oblivion Remaster was launched on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, a lot of subscribers had played the game without actually buying it. So the sold units may be a bit lower than the overall player count but it’s safe to say that it’ll still be enough to make Oblivion Remaster one of the best selling games of the year.
Of course, the huge numbers aren’t at all surprising for many gamers who had played the original as The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is rightfully regarded as one of the most beloved videogames ever made, and the Unreal Engine 5 powered Remaster not only brought it to the high technical standards of 2025, but also polished many of it’s core gameplay aspects to a level that wasn’t in the original. This resulted in a game that not only looked better but also played better than it’s base version, just like a great remaster should be. And that’s one reason why the Oblivion Remaster has massively outsold the original title in the U.S in just 1 month after it’s release.
