Midnight Murder Club On track to launch on August 14

Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially announced that Midnight Murder Club, the next PlayStation 5 console-exclusive video game, will officially come out of early access and hit the store shelves on August 14. The launch date is a benchmark for the “horror party game,” which has garnered “Mostly Positive” reviews on Steam and a remarkable 4.49-star rating on the PlayStation Store since its early access launch.

Released by PlayStation Studios and created by Velan Studios, Midnight Murder Club is a first-person multiplayer that drops the player in a killer’s mansion. One of the coolest things about the game is its incremental multiplayer entry: the up-front price permits the owner to invite as many as five friends to join the play for a tight and immediates-party system. And to that is included the chat feature during proximity, as well, which continues to enhance the immersive horror experience with player interactions that develop through in-game proximity. The game will be competitively priced at $19.99, a model that will see it up for sale to a bigger market.

Midnight Murder Club releases at the same time on PC, as well. This simultaneous release is a break from Sony’s previous one-year console exclusivity period prior to publishing on PC. This is consistent with more recent examples like Helldivers 2 and Concord, which can be construed as a shift in strategy to Sony’s release strategy on platforms. The shifting context of the publishing strategy of PlayStation is also highlighted by upcoming releases like Marathon, which is releasing on Xbox.

This comes in the wake of a patchwork of success for PlayStation’s newest games. Astro Bot was highly rated and won Game of the Year awards, but others such as Concord experienced quick cancellations and Marathon experienced indefinite delays. Apart from the back-and-forth, better times are ahead because Death Stranding 2 was universally acclaimed and Ghost of Yotei was a huge splash as one of the high-end fall season games. Midnight Murder Club, with its mix of horror, FPS, and action gameplay styles and with decent co-op and online multiplayer functionality, is well set to make a spot for itself in PlayStation’s very broad and diverse 2025 lineup.
