Marvel Rivals has been leaked to feature a new game mode that is dubbed the Clone Rumble, which will give players a crazy spin on the hero shooter. The game mode will let several players belonging to the same team select the same character, paving the way for crazy team compositions that will greatly shake the balance of the game.
Clone Rumble will deviate from the conventional hero-based shooter formula by eliminating character limit restrictions, says the leak posted on Twitter account RivalsLeaks. All types of one hero can be grouped together by players to play, or different clones can be paired up for random matches. This might result in unfair team combinations like six Hulks destroying the map or any number of Doctor Stranges spamming high-damage magic.
NetEase, which developed Marvel Rivals, has tried to design a game that will appeal to competitive and casual players. The core game already features strategic team building at its core, with some character synergies able to snowball games. Clone Rumble, on the other hand, seems to focus more on raw fun and less on balance, where players can build ridiculous combinations without considering meta plays.
Marvel Rivals debuted with 33 available characters and has been expanding its playable roster incrementally via seasonal updates. Season 1, which started in January, brought in Fantastic Four members and a new Doom Match free-for-all mode. As Season 1 winds down on April 10, Clone Rumble may be among the season’s standout features for Season 2, which commences on the next day.
Though NetEase has not yet announced the mode, the leak has made waves in the game’s community. The publisher has guaranteed frequent updates with new characters, maps, and play modes, making Marvel Rivals a live-service game with long-term support.
If Clone Rumble does show up as rumored, it might serve as a goofy, tongue-in-cheek respite from the more aggressive options of the Avengers game, a means to indulge in the sheer unpredictability of the Marvel multiverse.
