Final Fantasy 16 coming to Xbox

Final Fantasy 16 Xbox Port Announcement Coming Soon

Final Fantasy 16, initially launched as a timed PlayStation 5 exclusive in 2023, may soon be heading to the Xbox Series X, according to recent leaks. After its PC release in 2024, the title remains a console exclusive for Sony’s platform, but rumors suggest this exclusivity could soon end.

Square Enix has signaled a shift away from platform exclusivity, aiming to broaden its audience across consoles. This shift reportedly extends to its Final Fantasy franchise, with claims that games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake and even Final Fantasy 9 Remake could come to platforms beyond PlayStation. Now, the latest rumors indicate Final Fantasy 16 could follow suit.

Xbox Announcement Expected at Developer Direct

Leaker Ignus, who has previously shared accurate information, revealed on X that Final Fantasy 16 will be announced for Xbox “very soon.” According to Ignus, this announcement will likely occur during the Xbox Developer Direct on January 23, where it will serve as a surprise reveal alongside previously confirmed titles such as Doom: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Ignus clarified that the Final Fantasy 16 Xbox port is not the event’s teased “mystery game,” which is described as a classic Japanese IP with decades of history.

Fans are eagerly guessing the identity of the mystery game set to be unveiled at the Developer Direct. With Square Enix’s rumored involvement, possibilities include:

  • Kingdom Hearts 4: Announced years ago but with few updates since.
  • Final Fantasy 9 Remake: Long rumored and potentially tied to the recent leaks.
  • Another classic Square Enix franchise returning to modern platforms.

The Xbox Developer Direct will stream on January 23 at 10 AM PT, where fans can see if these rumors hold true. If accurate, this would mark a significant move for Square Enix as it expands its flagship franchises to new audiences.
