How to Respec in Diablo II: Resurrected

We have all been there before. After countless hours of investing skill points, the character isn’t performing as desired. Maybe the character’s damage output is too low or their resiliency isn’t sufficient for the selected difficulty. Whatever the reason, sometimes what’s needed is a clean slate.

Diablo II: Resurrected doesn’t punish players for not properly mapping out their build early on. And that’s a relief given the increasing challenge present throughout the journey, especially for those rocking unoptimized setups. And let’s not forget that a helpful dodge animation isn’t present for those looking to avoid damage; you will want to look at the dexterity stat for that job.

If you have decided to rearange your stat allocation or simply invest in a different tree to test out an alternate skillbar setup, we have you covered. Here’s how to respect in Diablo II: Resurrected.

How to Respec in Diablo II: Resurrected

There are two ways to respec in Diablo II: Resurrected, one of which is limited in its use. To access the easiest, but limited, method the player only needs to complete the first quest in Act I. Den of Evil is given by Akara, the same NPC housing one of the respec options. After Den of Evil has been completed, simply talk to Akara to access “Reset Stat/Skill Points” option. Keep in mind that this free respec is only available once per difficulty — Normal, Nightmare, and Hell — for a total of three uses.

Once those freebies have been exhausted, players will have to take a grindier route. The less simplistic but infinitely available method requires crafting a Token of Absolution via the Horadric Cube, which is obtained in Act II. The crafting materials needed for the token are the four essences (twisted, charged, burning, and festering) obtained from each of the act bosses.

The Token of Absolution process can be performed as many times as desired, with the time requirement sitting as the primary obstacle. Given the busywork, Akara sits as the most efficient technique for clearing out stat and skill selections. With that in mind, be sure to hold off as long as possible before eating up one of Akara’s respect uses.

Diablo II: Resurrected is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
