Metal Slug Ultimate Collection might be the best way to experience some SNK classics, provided you just don’t open some emulator and get the files yourself. Hopefully, this one isn’t simply some sort of emulator, but a proper port that fixes some of the issues from the original games. There needs to be a ton of quality of life features added to it, and based on the things I’ve managed to check on the page, it seems that there will be some improvements. Mainly, the ability to play online with other people seems to be available, which is huge because these games are a blast with two players.

We don’t know when will this happen, but it seems that it might be dropping in 2026 if you ask me. Considering most of the work is just trying to port some ROMs to PC and put them in some emulator, it shouldn’t be that hard of a job for SNK to accomplish considering they have already done so with multiple games in the past. The entire King of Fighters series is pretty much on Steam, at least the entries that matter, and all of them have online.
Alas, one can simply just get Metal Slug Ultimate Collection via other means provided the value given isn’t that good, as the price still isn’t out. There is a very huge thing however, because this pack will include a ROM for a Location Test version of the very first game, which pretty much would be a prototype before the game finally comes out. This is great, I’m not sure if this thing has ever been preserved before, I’m sure someone managed, but that SNK themselves are giving it to us in Metal Slug Ultimate Collection is great if we didn’t manage to do it ourselves.
