Civilization 7 is free to grab for a week if you have a Steam account, this is great if you are curious about the game, but you have to keep in mind that this release was a disaster that fans hated. It still is a disaster, as it sits on a mixed rating because many things aren’t fixed yet, this move reeks of desperation to get more people into the game. I wish they could have done a better job, but complex games like this tend to have their own development problems. If you are still curious, be aware this is only valid for a week.
Civilization 7 still remains messy
Initially it even dealt with issues due to having used AI slop images, this was very bad but apparently it got corrected quite quickly because it was something minor. Still, having the gall to put AI slop in a product is still insane, especially in 2026 with all of the outcry for the terrible quality of everything. I really wanna see it end, and it will end up becoming reality in the future because many things simply don’t pan out if you view it with a mind grounded in logic.
Regardless, if you still wanna play this entry on the Civilization series, and see how Civilization 7 fares with the rest, you are free to do so because the only thing you are paying with is your time here. I prefer the older games in the Civ series, but Civilization 7, despite its issues, does have some interesting things if you aren’t too picky. If I were you however, I’m not sure I would give my time to a game that dealt with these problems, no matter if it might contain some interesting things in it. It is our responsibility to keep the quality of games in a good place.
