Vintage Story is a great Minecraft alternative, that’s what I would say if the game didn’t have a big problem right now. Apparently one of the developers decided that it would be a good idea to install a malware if you download the official mod loader for the game. This is terrible because that means you can just open yourself up to viruses if you try to play mods in this game, and the worst part is that the company is aware of this. What I mean is that if a mod loader is compromised, then what about the rest of the game?
Vintage Story is dangerous
The fact that this was allowed to happen is baffling and smells quite ugly, maybe its not a good idea to put your hands in the game. Minecraft is still there and you can play the old versions, you could even pirate Minecraft if you wanted, even Mojang agrees. If you want to keep your PC safe, then it is imperative that you don’t download or get Vintage Story until the situation is solved. Considering the company seems complicit in this, I would recommend you to just stay far from the game, a true shame.
All of this was done because the developer didn’t want players to cheat at the game, so whenever you install a mod that the developer deems as cheating, then many things will happen. The fact that it alters the game randomly is quite spooky, not to mention that it could also do stuff to your PC too because that’s unwritten memory that gets executed arbitrarily. The game is pretty much a time bomb, and maybe it will cease being relevant, however that mod was downloaded a total of 500k times so, that’s a lot of users that are affected and unaware of it.
