Final Fantasy VII Revelation Promises More Compilation Cameos

Square Enix is doubling down on its efforts to unite the sprawling Final Fantasy VII universe for the upcoming trilogy conclusion, Final Fantasy VII Revelation. Speaking in an interview with IGN at Gamescom, game director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that the final entry in the remake saga will feature even more characters drawn from the franchise’s various spin-offs and compilation titles.

While Hamaguchi kept specific names under wraps to avoid spoiling narrative surprises, his comments build on a precedent established in earlier chapters. Both Remake and Rebirth integrated key figures from auxiliary media, including Crisis Core’s Cissnei and Dirge of Cerberus antagonist Nero the Sable. Revelation aims to push that cross-media integration further as the central narrative reaches its climax, tying together decades of expanded lore into a single cohesive storyline.

Beyond deep-cut cameos, the third entry brings fundamental structural shifts to the core cast. Both Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine will finally become fully playable party members, complete with unique battle mechanics. Vincent, the former protagonist of Dirge of Cerberus, will utilize long-range firearm combat alongside his signature Galian Beast transformation. Hamaguchi noted that Vincent’s backstory will receive substantial focus during the campaign, offering deeper context for long-time fans familiar with his standalone history.

Players will also take to the skies aboard the Highwind airship to explore a world altered by the looming threat of Meteor. To combat new hazards, including iconic Weapon bosses like Ruby, Emerald, and Ultima Weapon, Square Enix is introducing a job-based “FITS” system to expand tactical options for Cloud and the main party.

More details are expected shortly, as Square Enix prepares to showcase Final Fantasy VII Revelation during Sony’s upcoming State of Play broadcast, followed by a dedicated developer panel at PAX West.
