Developer CD Project Red has confirmed that players will be able to use their existing save files from the original The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with the upcoming Remastered upgrade of the game so if for some reason you didn’t get to complete the base game, you can resume your progress in the Remaster right where you left off. The Polish studio has wrote the following on their official X/Twitter page:

“We’ve seen your questions about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered!
Good news: your current saves will work with the upgrade, so you can get back on the Path right where you left off. Your unlocked achievements and trophies will carry over too!”

And moreover, this will be the case for all Nintendo Switch owners upgrading to a copy of the Remastered on Nintendo Switch 2 as well, besides the upgrade being available for free on all platforms.

Also, your progresses toward any achievements and trophies will get tracked and continued perfectly in the Remastered edition of Witcher 3.

The recently announced The Witcher 3 Remastered is a significantly overhauled version of developer CD Projekt Red’s seminal open world action RPG with tweaked combat, improved traversal and movement, revamped mount handling, enhanced monster behaviors, a skill tree revamp, armor transmog, an expanded photo mode, new finishers and much more, ensuring a huge improvement over the original in terms of moment-to-moment gameplay.

The remastered version of Witcher 3 also includes cross-platform mod support, new quest tracking, immersive meditation, refined animations, UI improvements, a looting rework, refreshed motion blur, new accessibility features, a tutorial modernization along with visual updates such as HDR improvements, a foliage shading rework, ray-tracing improvements, a global lighting rework, new shading model, subsurface scattering and more. There’s also support for Nvidia DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR 4, Intel XESS 2.0, path tracing and ray reconstruction on PC, native DX12 and rendering parallelization along with ray-traced hair.

The Witcher 3 Remastered is scheduled to come out as a free upgrade for all owners of the base game on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 29.
