It seems Naughty Dog’s next AAA title Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is now one step closer to it’s completion as the developer has officially confirmed that the upcoming title’s performance capture segments are fully wrapped up. The studio posted in it’s social media page that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet has concluded it’s “cinematic shoot” which means the main narrative sections that require real-life actors and performers, are now fully completed.
And even though this doesn’t provide anything regarding where the game is at currently, but as the cinematic narrative constitutes a large part of most AAAs in the current era of gaming, it indicates the storytelling aspect of the game is perhaps close to being finished.
For some reference, Naughty Dog’s previous title, The Last of Us Part 2 had finished it’s performance capture roughly a year before it’s release so it’s possible that we may get a release date around a year from now, making for a 2028 launch for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Also, a State of Play event from Sony is supposed to take place later this week and it’s a possibility that we may get more official info on the game from the event.
Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann had said last year that Intergalactic will feature the “deepest gameplay” the studio has ever done which makes the upcoming title incredibly ambitious in the best possible way. But since only a sparse amount of release materials are available as of yet, there’s almost nothing to judge Druckmann’s statements on the game right now, however they do indicate that the combat mechanics of Intergalactic will probably have a lot of depth and versatility which would be really great.
Intergalactic has been in development for over four years and features a star studded cast of Tati Gabrielle from the Uncharted movie as protagonist Jordan A. Mun, and Kumail Nanjiani of Marvel’s Eternals as another in-game character called Colin Graves. The game is not expected to release till 2027 at the earliest.
