It seems the upcoming GTA 6 will mimic real life in more ways than one, although it isn’t really a surprise at this point considering Rockstar’s colossal ambitions for the open world behemoth. As part of a cover story for Dazed Magazine, a lot of information on GTA 6 have come out which includes Rockstar doubling it’s size after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 for bringing the newest entry in the legendary Grand Theft Auto franchise to life, and saw a new Los Angeles based office for the studio being “almost solely” dedicated to working on the game’s NPCs.
This is pretty groundbreaking for a videogame and goes to show the unbelievable scale and detail that’s going to be in GTA 6, and can be experienced every second in the game. The magazine also says that Rockstar had around 2,000 employees in 2018 and the number of developers has grown to around 4,000 now.
The studio also hired multiple real-life professionals including Miami-based stylist Jillian Carr, in order to help create a “fashion ecosystem” for capturing a unique aesthetics for the inhabitants of Vice City, and provide a distinct sense of character to them.
“Vice City is built around vanity,” Carr stated to the magazine. “Between social media, celebrity culture and a constant flow of tourists, appearances carry significant weight, and trend cycles turn over quickly.”
Rockstar Games had also hired real-life sportscar drivers to help with vehicle handling and 50 real street artists to design murals around the game’s enormous map, and a lot of them, including Carr, had been working in the studio for years.
Overall, this level of real world similarity and authenticity have been unheard of in gaming, and will invariably define what’s possible in videogames as a medium for decades to come.
An extended showcase for GTA 6 is scheduled on Netflix today, so if you have a subscription to the streaming platform, you’ll be able to get a first look at some of the new features from the most anticipated videogame of all time when it premiers at 3 PM ET, which will also be available on Rockstar’s own Youtube channel at 9 PM ET today.
GTA 6 is currently slated to launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
