A new report from Bloomberg has revealed the current development status of the next mainline entry in Sony’s Horizon series of games, which will continue protagonist Aloy’s story which spans the events of the earlier two titles–Horizon Zero Dawn which came out back in 2017 and Horizon Forbidden West which was released on 2022.
“A tiny team has been plotting out the next single-player Horizon game but it remains years away from completion, according to the people familiar with the studio’s plans,” Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported.
Developer Guerilla Games is currently working on Horizon Hunters Gathering which is an upcoming co-op based live service title set in the Horizon Universe and is scheduled to release on both Playstation 5 as well as PC. This also means that Horizon 3 could be really far away, and may even be launched after the next version of Playstation comes out which may be around 2028 or beyond.
During last year at CES, Sony had also announced an upcoming movie adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn in collaboration between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures and while there’s no official synopsis for the film adaptation, it would most likely based around Aloy’s origin story, which would basically adapt the events of the first game.
Released in 2017, Horizon Zero Dawn sees machine hunter Aloy (voiced by Ashly Burch) in a post-apocalyptic World that’s overrun by machines. The story is centered around the protagonist in a mission to uncover her own past across the lust and overgrown future World that’s also home to small pockets of Humanity who mostly survive in unique tribes. The game was praised for it’s Open World exploration, unique combat mechanics and engrossing story and it’s success had led to an expansion titled The Frozen Wilds along with it’s full sequel Horizon Forbidden West, which came out in 2022 and is one of the most beautiful looking games that you can play.
