Competitive Marvel Rivals players have uncovered a loophole that lets losing teams cancel Ranked matches without suffering rating penalties or matchmaking bans. The exploit, dubbed “config dodging” by the community, relies on intentionally triggering the hero shooter’s automated anti-cheat protections mid-match.
According to widespread reports from high-tier streamers and social media clips, players on the losing side of a match drag unauthorized configuration files into their local game directory while a game is actively in progress. The server immediately detects client-side tampering and terminates the match under the assumption that a cheater is present. While the game’s anti-cheat system is designed to protect players by shutting down compromised matches without penalizing victims, this specific manipulation allows the offender to bypass normal abandon penalties, clear out the temporary files, and walk away with their rank intact.
Under standard Competitive rules, NetEase enforces strict penalties for quitting mid-game to preserve competitive integrity. Early disconnects typically result in rank point deductions alongside temporary matchmaking suspensions that escalate from 15 minutes up to 20 hours for repeated infractions. However, because config dodging frames the exit as an anti-cheat intervention rather than a voluntary leave, players who abuse the method avoid both point losses and temporary bans while simultaneously denying the winning team their earned victory points.
The practice has raised significant frustration across the Marvel Rivals PC community, particularly in upper-tier matchmaking where individual match outcomes heavily dictate leaderboard standing. Modification of local .ini graphics and performance files has long been a gray area on PC, but NetEase explicitly forbids client tampering and maintains a policy of permanent account bans alongside IP restrictions for cheat violations. While NetEase has steadily expanded anti-cheat protections throughout 2026, the developer has not yet issued a specific patch addressing the config manipulation exploit.
