The Witcher Multiplayer project seems to be in a very complicated state due to the a recent round of layoffs. It is very interesting that the franchise has decided to take this shape now, and I wonder what kind of game we will end up getting. However, I can’t help but feel sad about the people who just can’t keep their jobs anymore because they fell on the wrong side of a spreadsheet. It is insane that layoffs are still happening, and they don’t seem to be stopping anytime soon, things keep getting worse in the world of video games.
Witcher Multiplayer game faces issues
By cutting down staff before the game is even out, you are ensuring that something bad will happen to it in the future. The very same people who made it should be kept in the company to ensure further updates and patches can be rolled out, not to mention that the people who make new assets like artists, composers, and writers should also stick along if you want to make the live service experience be alive in the first place. The fact that these cuts keep happening in the game industry is baffling to say the least, but everything about the 2020s is cost cutting.
A Witcher Multiplayer game sounds nice as a concept, however they have to execute it well, it will probably be some kind of cooperative experience considering modern trends. I feel like it would do well, but considering the layoffs I can’t see this one living for that long if the plan is to make it run for multiple years. Maybe they have something different in mind that we aren’t aware off, and it would be more like some sort of Witcher Multiplayer spinoff with those elements as an option rather than being the main thing.
