Aspyr Media recently gave us an amazing remaster for The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, and it was definitely something that should have happened earlier on. Now there is plans for more remasters to come, and fans are excited to see this trickling down eventually. Considering these games are often just lost or the only way to obtain them are sources that break away from official means, the fact that a company is bringing them back legally is a boon for all of us. Of course, they need to justify the fact that people should purchase them, so they need to do a good job.
The Lord of the Rings games will return
We really don’t know if the Warner Bros game with the patented Nemesis system will come back, as that one is currently being held in a legal prison. It would be great of Aspyr Media somehow figured it out and kept touch with the people behind that system so it could be remade. Alas, this is unlikely Aspyr Media just focuses on porting stuff to the best of their ability, and while I have seen most of their ports fail while reviewing them for this site, The Lord of the Rings: War in the North™ – Legacy Edition surprised me in a good way.
I didn’t expect them to pull this off so well, everyone seems to love it so far with a 91% of positive reviews. It is insane how much of a glow up Aspyr Media got after being reviled and hated just some months prior. Hopefully this remains to be the case, quality ports to modern systems that can resurrect great games from the past. Modern gaming is looking very grim right now, and the only thing holding it together seem to be the memories of a golden past.
