The most anticipated videogame of all time, Rockstar’s GTA 6 is well expected to make and break all kinds of records when it comes out this November and based on what’s possibly the strongest pre-order campaign in history, the open world behemoth could make a colossal $5 billion just in it’s first week. However, it seems we won’t know the actual numbers for the pre-orders of GTA 6 as according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick (via a new interview with Bloomberg), they can be ‘misleading’ at this point, although he has confirmed that the numbers are indeed unprecedented in the history of videogames.
“The massive demand for preorders we’ve seen to date could reflect a pull forward of sales that otherwise would materialize in the fullness of time,” Zelnick said.
He also explained why Take-Two wouldn’t share the actual numbers for GTA 6 pre-orders:
“I’ve reminded people that we simply don’t know the demand curve because it’s just never happened before,” Zelnick said. “Given that, we think the raw numbers could potentially be misleading in a direction we wouldn’t feel good about.”
During the company’s recent earnings call, the CEO had said the following regarding the pre-order numbers of GTA 6: “No one’s ever seen anything like this before at Take-Two, or in the industry.” He also added: “To be clear, we haven’t sold one unit yet. You can cancel a preorder.”
Zelnick had also confirmed in the event that GTA 6 is still on track to release in November, which means no more delays, hopefully.
