Remedy’s upcoming title Control Resonant is all set to release September this year and has a lot riding on it, especially the future of the entire series, but however the game may turn out to be, it’s sure to give you plenty of playtime as the length of the title has been revealed by it’s lead gameplay designer. Sergey Mohov, the lead gameplay designer for Control Resonant, has said in a recent interview with Tech Radar, that the upcoming title can take around 30 hours to complete and for all the completionists, the total playtime can be approximately 50 hours.

Overall, it clearly seems Remedy’s Control Resonant is going to be quite a sumptuous experience which is great for exploring the exciting combat system of the upcoming game with all it’s possible variations and depth.

The dev also said that Control Resonant draws inspiration from some of the most iconic hack-n-slash titles ever made, while putting it’s own spin on the experience:

“We use references for the individual parts of the experience. I’m a big fan of DMC 2 and DMC 3, and PlatinumGames’ titles. It’s really hard to name one single reference, but I think if you play the game more, you’ll notice that there are things that have been done in other games, but I don’t think you can directly say Resonant is ‘exactly like this other thing.’

“We learn lessons from all of these other projects to see what works and what doesn’t, but I think you probably haven’t played anything that is exactly like this.”

Control Resonant lets you play as Dylan Faden and take on a wide range of paranormal foes in a trippy, anti-gravity environment where you get to control a shapeshifting weapon titled ‘The Aberrant’. You’ll also be able to upgrade the weapon and unlock more forms and supernatural abilities that will provide a dynamic tool of exciting combat system which looks and feels pretty great and has the potential to be one of the most memorable videogame experiences this year. The platforming with the ability to realign entire buildings and large structures looks equally promising and compliments the action well enough.

The shapeshifting weapon, along with the inventive anti-gravity type levels can make for delightful combat sequences that can be hugely satisfying and addictive. However, don’t expect the combat in Control Resonant to be as deep and diverse as that of Ninja Gaiden 4 and more in the vein of the rebooted version of Devil May Cry titled DmC which came out way back in 2013.

Control Resonant is set to release on September 24, 2026 for the Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows and macOS.
