Former Xbox Developer Compulsion Games Now Looking for Collaboration Opportunities

The ongoing ‘Reset’ process for Xbox has seen some of the harshest mass layoffs in the industry which can result in over 4000 job cuts by the end of the current fiscal year and multiple studios being let go from the brand as well. And among the studios that have just gone independent from the Xbox umbrella is Compulsion Games, the developer behind South of Midnight who recently took to LinkedIn to let other studios and publishers know that they’re currently looking to work as a support studio or co-developer to any project spearheaded by another studio.

“With Compulsion Games returning to its roots as an independent developer, we are expanding opportunities to collaborate with studios across the games and entertainment industry,” states the studio’s LinkedIn post.

“We invite partners to leverage the talent and creativity of the award-winning team behind South of Midnight…We are excited to support the development of memorable experiences that engage and entertain players around the world.”

It makes a lot of sense for a relatively smaller studio like Compulsion Games to want to look for collaborative work after being independent from Xbox as making a game alongside other studios will allow the developer to put their talents to use while helping them to acquire funds which could later be used for developing their own projects.

Compulsion Games released South of Midnight which came out last year and received acclaim from critics and players alike, securing a 77% Metacritic rating. Prior to that, the studio had developed We Happy Few and Contrast after being acquired by Xbox in 2018, and finally parting ways with the brand this past week.

The ongoing restructuring of Xbox is set to continue throughout this year and will result in the company letting go of 15% of employees by the end of the current financial year, with 8% of those cuts happening last week.
