The Call of Duty franchise didn’t have as big of a hit last year with Black Ops 7 as what Activision as well as many players have hoped for, but the recently released Playstation ports of Black Ops 1 and 2 are making up for it quite well as according to Charlie Intel, the 15 year old titles are dominating player counts of 2025’s Call of Duty title.
“The Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 ports on PlayStation have more players online than Black Ops 7 does combined on all platforms, sources say.”
Even though Activision is yet to confirm this officially, but given the sheer love for the older Black Ops titles in the Call of Duty franchise, the claim seems pretty legit. But what’s particularly impressive is despite the ports coming out for only the PS4 and the PS5, they’re still beating the numbers of Black Ops 7 which is currently available on five mainstream platforms.
The Playstation ports of Black Ops 1 and 2 also comes with their respective season passes and can be bought for $29.99 each but if you have a PS Plus subscription and decide to get them within the first 30 days of their launch, you’ll only need to pay $9.89 per game.
The Call of Duty franchise has long been accused of iteration over innovation but it seems this year’s Modern Warfare 4 will breathe new life into the iconic first person shooter series in more ways than one. The upcoming shooter will feature multiple storylines in it’s single player campaign mode and one of them sees players taking on the role of Private Park, a young South Korean soldier set to experience live combat for the first time in a routine mission that quickly escalates into a full-scale invasion by North Korea.
The campaign mode in Modern Warfare 4 looks to deliver the kind of spectacular, narrative driven missions that had made the original Modern Warfare so memorable and endearing for all players of the genre.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set to launch on October 23 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and the Nintendo Switch 2.
