One of the biggest highlights of this year’s hotly anticipated Gears of War: E-Day is it’s 4 player co-op which lets you and up to three of your friends play through the entirety of the campaign together, providing an unparalleled level of immersion and enjoyment. And although you can experience Gears of War: E-Day all on your own, you can always have the option of your friends joining in on the campaign and bring down the Locus horde together, turning up both the fun and the replayability factors exponentially.
In a recent interview with GamesRadar, Gears of War: E-Day creative director Matt Searcy has provided a detailed description on the expansive co-op in the upcoming third person shooter, also revealing that it’s a huge investment from the studio as well:
“I’m not gonna lie, it’s a huge investment. We made the decision to support four player co-op to reflect an aspect of how the core Gears DNA feels. Our stories are almost always about a four-person squad, right?
We set a goal from the very beginning of development that we wanted you to be able to play as every single character. So in our campaign, you can pick any of the characters from the story – the story will be told entirely from that perspective, and you’ll never leave their side.
We have had modes that have supported four-player co-op in them in the past and clearly they work, so this was all about building the right spaces at the right sizes. You know, we build to make sure the game plays great in single-player, in two-player co-op, and then in three- and four-player co-op as well.”
We love single-player games, and Gears is built so that you can play it that way and have an amazing time. Our mechanics are designed in single-player, you’ll have the squad there with you, and the game will play great if you’re on your own. But we really believe in the co-op experience too, as you get to try different tactics and experiment with multiple things at once in our larger combat arenas – it’s a lot of fun.”
Gears of War: E-Day is set to release on October 6, 2026 for the Xbox Series X|S and PC.
